Cookie policy

Cookies are small data files that a website stores on or reads from your device. They can keep a session working, remember a preference, support security or help a website understand how it is used.

Similar “storage and access technologies” include browser local storage, pixels, scripts, tags, software development kits, device identifiers and other methods that store information on, or access information from, a device. The rules can apply whether or not the information identifies you.

A first-party technology is operated for the website you are visiting. A third-party technology is supplied by another organisation. A session item normally expires when the browser closes; a persistent item remains until its stated expiry or until you delete it.

In this policy, “cookies” includes comparable storage and access technologies unless the context requires otherwise.

Technologies covered by this policy

The word “cookies” is used in this policy as convenient shorthand. The same legal and practical principles may apply to browser local storage, session storage, software development kits, pixels, tags, scripts, device identifiers, cache-based techniques and other methods that store information on, or gain access to information from, a user’s device.

A cookie is usually a small text file placed on a browser or device. It may contain a random identifier, preference, timestamp or other limited value. Some cookies last only for the browser session, while persistent cookies remain until their stated expiry or until they are deleted.

First-party and third-party technologies

First-party technologies are set by, or on behalf of, Insightnix through the domain you are visiting. Third-party technologies are controlled by another organisation, for example a consent-management, embedded-content or analytics provider. The fact that a technology is third-party does not automatically determine whether consent is required; its purpose and the applicable legal exception are also relevant.

Personal information

Cookie identifiers and technical records may be personal information where they relate to an identifiable user or device. Their use is therefore also subject to our Privacy Policy and applicable data-protection principles, including fairness, transparency, minimisation, security and retention limitation.

Insightnix may load technical resources from third-party providers to deliver consent management, styling, icons, charts, maps, security or other website functions. When your browser requests a resource directly from another provider, that provider may receive request information such as your IP address, browser details, the requested resource, time and referring page.

Examples may include content-delivery networks for Tailwind CSS, Font Awesome, Chart.js, D3.js or map resources. A technical request does not necessarily mean that the provider sets a cookie. Any cookie or similar technology detected should appear in the declaration above.

We use Cookiebot, provided by Usercentrics, to display the consent interface, store or access your consent state and help block non-exempt optional technologies until the required choice has been made. Cookiebot may process limited device and consent information to provide this function.

Third-party websites opened through external links apply their own cookie and privacy rules. We do not control technologies used after you leave Insightnix.

Strictly necessary and security technologies

These may support core page delivery, load balancing, secure form submission, fraud or abuse prevention, rate limiting, session continuity and the storage of your privacy preferences. Disabling them may prevent the website or a requested feature from operating correctly.

Preference and appearance technologies

Where used, these remember a choice expressly made by you, such as interface preferences or accessibility settings. A legal exception may apply only where the conditions for that exception are met; otherwise the technology will remain subject to consent.

Analytics and measurement

Analytics technologies may help us understand page use, errors, performance and broad audience patterns. Where analytics is not covered by a valid statutory exception, it will not be activated before consent. Any exception for statistical purposes is interpreted narrowly and does not permit advertising profiling or unrelated reuse.

Marketing and cross-site tracking

Insightnix does not intend to use advertising cookies to build cross-site profiles or sell audiences. If this position changes, the relevant technologies, providers, purposes and choices will be disclosed before activation and the required consent will be obtained.

Unclassified technologies

A scanner may temporarily identify a technology whose purpose is still being reviewed. An unclassified technology is not treated as automatically permitted. We assess its source, purpose, duration and data flows and will block or categorise it as appropriate.

How to read the declaration

The declaration below is generated from periodic scanning and may identify the technology name, provider, purpose, expiry and category. “Session” normally means that the browser removes the item when the session ends, although browser behaviour can vary. A stated maximum duration does not necessarily mean that a value will always be retained for that entire period.

Limits of automated scanning

Scanning provides useful evidence but may not capture a technology that loads only after a particular interaction, location, device configuration, login state or third-party response. We therefore combine scanning with configuration review and investigate unexpected findings. A newly introduced provider or script may appear in the declaration after the next scan.

Embedded content

Pages may link to, or in future embed, content supplied by another service. An embedded chart, video, map, document or social-media feature may allow the provider to receive technical information or place its own technologies. Where this is optional, we will seek consent before loading it or use a click-to-load mechanism where practicable.

Consent-management provider

We use Cookiebot to display choices and maintain a record of the consent state communicated to the website. Its necessary functions may involve storing a consent identifier and the date or version of the choice. The provider processes this information under its applicable contractual and privacy arrangements.

Provider changes and responsibility

Third-party providers may update their services, domains or retention periods. We review integrations under our control and update this policy or the declaration where necessary. Independent websites reached through an ordinary link are governed by their own cookie and privacy information.

International access

A third-party provider may process technical information outside the United Kingdom. Where personal information is transferred internationally by us or our processor, the transfer is addressed as described in our Privacy Policy.

PECR generally requires clear and comprehensive information and consent before information is stored on, or accessed from, your device. Consent must meet UK GDPR standards. The law also contains exceptions, including for communications, strictly necessary functions and—where all conditions are met—certain low-risk statistical, appearance and emergency-assistance purposes.

Insightnix’s current approach is to keep non-exempt analytics or similar optional technologies off until you accept them. Where we rely on an exception, we will use the technology only for the permitted purpose, provide required information and offer any simple means of objecting required by law.

The first time a consent choice is needed, the banner allows you to accept or reject optional categories without making rejection unnecessarily difficult. Refusing optional technologies does not prevent access to public dashboards, although some optional features may be unavailable.

You can change or withdraw consent through the Cookie settings button above or the footer link. Withdrawal affects future use. You can separately delete items already stored through your browser. We may ask you to make a fresh choice if purposes change, new categories are introduced, the consent record expires or the law requires it.

Prior consent

Unless a statutory exception applies, storage or access technologies are used only after you have received clear information and made a freely given, specific and informed choice. Optional categories should remain off until selected. Continuing to browse, silence, inactivity or a pre-ticked option is not treated as valid consent.

Recognised exceptions

Depending on the precise facts and current law, consent may not be required for technologies used solely to transmit a communication, technologies strictly necessary to provide an online service expressly requested by the user, certain limited statistical purposes, certain appearance functions expressly selected by the user, or emergency-assistance functions. We apply an exception only where all relevant conditions are satisfied and the use does not extend beyond the permitted purpose.

Granular and balanced choices

Where multiple optional purposes exist, choices are presented by meaningful category rather than bundled into an all-or-nothing decision. Rejecting optional technologies should be available as readily as accepting them. Necessary technologies cannot be switched off through the consent tool where they are essential to the requested service, although they may still be controlled through browser settings with possible loss of functionality.

Withdrawal and renewal

You may reopen cookie settings and change an optional choice at any time. Withdrawal affects future storage or access and does not retrospectively invalidate earlier use based on valid consent. We may ask you to renew a choice where purposes, providers or the consent framework materially change, or after an appropriate interval.

Evidence of choice

We may keep a limited record of the consent or refusal, including a consent identifier, timestamp, policy version and selected categories, where needed to implement the preference and demonstrate compliance. This record is not used for advertising.

You can inspect, block or delete cookies and site data through your browser or device settings. Blocking all storage may prevent sessions, forms, consent preferences or other essential functions from working correctly.

Browser controls operate separately from the Insightnix consent tool. If you use more than one browser or device, you may need to set your preferences on each one.

Browser controls

Most browsers allow you to view, block and delete cookies; clear site data; limit third-party cookies; and control tracking-prevention settings. Instructions differ by browser and device. Blocking all storage may affect consent memory, forms, security controls or other requested functions.

Private browsing and multiple devices

A choice is usually associated with the browser or device on which it was made. Private-browsing sessions, cleared storage, a different browser or a different device may require a new selection. Where browser settings prevent the consent record from being stored, the banner may reappear.

Do Not Track and similar signals

Browser privacy signals are not implemented consistently across all services. We apply the choices made through our consent tool and any legally mandatory recognised signal. We will review generally accepted technical standards as they develop.

Removing existing data

Changing consent stops future optional use under our control but may not automatically erase a value already stored in the browser. You can remove existing site data through your browser. A provider may retain limited server-side records where another lawful basis or legal obligation applies, as explained in the relevant privacy information.

We may update this policy when website technologies, providers, purposes or legal requirements change. The fixed last-updated date at the top identifies the current written version, while the declaration in section 3 updates to reflect technologies detected on the website.

If a change requires a new consent—for example, a new non-exempt purpose—we will request that consent before activating the relevant technology. Previous consent will not be treated as covering materially different purposes.

Review and scanning

We review this policy and the live declaration when technologies, providers, website features or legal requirements change. We may also update wording to improve clarity without changing the underlying practice.

The “last updated” date identifies the current policy version. The live declaration may change more frequently because it reflects scan results and provider configuration. A material new optional purpose will not be activated merely because it has appeared in a scan; the consent configuration must also be updated.
